I just finished a set of baby toys for a baby boy. The set includes a white teddy bear, a white bunny rattle, a blue elephant and a soft ball in a combination of white terry cloth and polka dot fleece.

Giving a baby a toy helps them connect with the world, learn about shapes, textures, colors and sound. A soft toy can be transfered from one hand to the other to develp hand-eye coordination. A soft stuffed animal can also help the baby bond with others.

This little bear is made with soft minky fleece and has no features to make it safe for the smallest ones.

These balls have a rattle inside, it is so much fun to see a baby play with their first ball!

It is called Mustis ( My husband calles me Musti) and it is my supplies store. In this store I am selling hard to find patterns, vintage craft books and unique supplies to make your own crafts.

Getting ready for Christmas Cinammon applesauce Ornaments

It is hard to believe how fast this year has passed!
Christmas is my favorite Holiday and I love winter, hot coco and warm sweaters.

Last year my then five year old and I made Cinnamon ornaments. It is a perfect holiday activity for kids.

It is really easy to make and they smell really good and as I was able to confirm the other day when I took them out….the smell really lasts.

Recipe:
1 1/2 cups applesauce
1 1/2 cups cinnamon
1/8 cup Elmer's glue

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
You can add more applesauce if the dough is dry or more cinnamon if it is too wet.
set the dough on a waxed piece of paper and roll it to about 1/8" thick.
Then have fun using different cookie cutters, or even playdough cutters.

To make the holes for a string , use a straw and don't forget to do it while the dough is still wet. At this point you can get creative and add little beads to decorate.

Bake in the oven for half hour at around 150 degrees. After removing from the oven let them dry for a day or two.

On October first we had the privilege to attend met Lauren Stringer, author of Winter is the Warmest season and illustrator of many children’s books.

Mrs. Stringer shared her creative process, talked about how she finds inspiration to create those amazing illustration and how she keeps her ideas organized.

It was really a pleasure to listen to her and we have been enjoying her wonderful book Winter is the warmest season inspired by her son and written and illustrated by two other books illustrated by her; Red Rubber Boot Day and Scarecrow.

Last weekend my husband and I opened a few more boxes of items from his grandparents house.
We found really interesting items, we found a set of wonderful Trunkey the elephant from the San Francisco Zoo from my husband's childhood. That one object brought so many fond memories of wonderful days spent at the zoo with his family.

When we open boxes it usually takes a lot of time to go through them to decide what we will do with each item, first because he tells me the story if he knows where it came from and because these items have a past, they were part of his family life and it is hard to part from some of them.

The first picture shows just a few of the items that we selected.
Among them a very interesting relish tray made in Italy that I just listed in my vintage store

History of Pizzato
Pizzato is an Italian company founded in 1956 by Marco Pizzato. All items produce by the company are entirely hand-decorated.
Pizzato specializes in dinner sets, trays, horsd'oevredishes, salad bowls, fruit stands, pitchers,etc in mate-rials tested in earthenware, stoneware and terracotta.
The terracota used is non-toxic, they use top quality raw materials to produce reliable products for edible use.

The company still exists and is run by Mr.Pizzato's children.

His fleece is white as snow....but he is not a little lamb!

It you have a toddler you know how they won't leave the house with that one little car or train they want to keep in their hands, right? You also know that as a Mom you have to 'know' where the little toy is, if you want to avoid a melt down.

Here is the solution! And it is not just for toddlers, my son is 5 and he loves to his car and train holders and organizers. We keep them in the car so he can play with it on the go.

Taking favorite toys like little trains like this can be great to keep your little boy entertained at a Restaurant, long trips in the car, doctor’s office, etc.

You unroll the holder and you have the trains securely inside their own pocket and a track to play with.

The pockets are tall enough so that the engines can go in with cars too.

The roll comes with it's own track with some bushes so your little one not only has his trains but also a playmat to play iwth.

The outside fabric has Thomas the train the inside has a combination of blue solid fabric and colored strips.

This holder measures 17" x 8 1/4" (44 x 22 cms

Little cars on the go organizer / holder

I just listed a little car's holder in my etsy store, I can make matching crayon holders and aprons if you want.

When my son was a toddler he started carrying his little cars all over, everywhere we went he would take them. Soon I realized I had to keep track of them otherwise he will lose his favorite one and then, well you know toddlers we would have a melt down.

So I came up with the idea of making him a little bag to carry them up and down the stairs or to take in the car, soon after that I saw a crayon roll and thought about a car organizer, something where the cars would not be touching each other damaging the paint. It has been interesting to me to see that I am not the only mom that had the idea, I have seen other people do the same....I guess necessity is the mother of all inventions.

The car roll has a road with trees and yellow lines so that your little boy can play with them.

He is five years old and he has different car rolls, one for the CARS from the cars movie another one for the hotwheels/matchbox cars and yet another one for trucks.

This little car holders are really handy to have when you have to keep your little one busy like at Restaurants, doctor's office, plane or car trips, etc.

My vintage store Klassic was started with the idea of selling a few things we had from the recent past that we thought could be enjoyed by others, but it really started to get stocked a year ago when my father in law passed away and we had to downsize their house and move my mother in law to a much smaller place.

Joe was an interesting person, not easy to understand but he certainly can give us a lesson on how to live life in your own terms.
You could say he made this quote his:
“There is only one success in life, to live your life in your own way” by Christopher Morley.

Joe lived his life his way, others might have not agreed or understood it, but he believed in himself and his beliefs. He was his own person.

I have said it before, as I go through items that belong to his parents and therefore were part of his home as a child, as I go through family jewelry and pictures I get closer to him. I know him a little bit better today than I did a year ago. I so wish it didn’t have to be this way.

This little note is a tribute to the man that he was, to the father who helped my amazing husband be the incredible person, husband and daddy that he is.
To the man that we miss and will forever love and may one day, understand his way.
To my son's grandpa with love.
May you be resting in peace, we love you and we will always remeber you and I wish I could be listening to one of your stories!

Vintage Bronze Buddha Head Statue

This is a bronze reproduction of a 4th century head statue of Buddha at Sarnath.
This Buddha can be identified for the elongated earlobes from wearing heavy earrings in his early life as a prince, his head has a protrusion on top that symbolizes his superior wisdom.
This wonderful statue is mounted on a black wooden museum like base.

It features beautifully knotted heair and a flaming pointed top knot.

I just listed this wonderful vintage Wooden Armoire in my store.

This is a wonderful vintage wooden jewelry box with lots of spaces to keep your jewelry neatly organized.
It has 2 flower etched glass doors, and three drawers, two of which are small and one is the width of the armoire so you can place longer items.
Everything is cover with a light gray velvet.

It has a music box that plays strangers in the night.

The smaller door opens to reveal a compartment to organize your rings.

The big glass door opens to reveal a spinning hanger for your necklaces or dangling earrings and it has a mirror in the back.

Super Heroes

Batman or as it was originally referred to The Bat Man has been around for 70 years! It first appeared in the DC Comics ( Detective Comics) in May of 1939.
We all know the story, little Bruce Wayne witnessed the murder of his parents as a child and he swore to stop crime in Gotham City. In order to fight crime Wayne hides his identity under a costume and every gadget he uses has a bat related name, The bat mobile, the bat cave, etc.
Batman is a detective, He is a philanthropist, he is a millionaire that uses his resources to come up with gadgets to overcome his lack of super powers.
Batman has changed his image with each generation, but he is still as strong as he was 70 years ago.

Superman on the other hand is not as the rest of us, he comes from a planet where people are sophisticated, energetic, highly intellingent, custodians of an advanced super scientific civilization.
Krypton is located in a distant galaxy and it is in this mighty planet that a little boy was born to scientist JOr-El and his wife Lara, his name? Kal-El.

There is something about superheros that little kids just love, maybe is the fact that they fight villains and they always win?

Now a days super heroes and villands are everywhere, they drop in little kids parties, forget about clowns, the thing today is to invite spiderman or Darth Vader to your party!

You can find them in balloons, candle holders, pinatas, plates, outfits and so much more.
I wonder how many of those items will stand the test of time, how many of those will still be around in 30 or 40 years.

How will they look in 30 years? They have changed so much from when I was little!

Vintage Boxes have History

I find vintage boxes intriguing , pragmatic, interesting, full of history.
They were made to fulfill a function and they do it in such a unique way, they were made with attention to detail, they have textures, emblems, they have locks and keys and give me the impression they were made to keep secrets or really valuable things.

These vintage boxes or containers are so versatile, you can use them in so many different ways, they can be used to decorate yet can still be useful. It just reminds me of the Tao Te Ching 11 it is the center hole what makes them useful!

Thirty Spokes share the wheels hub;
It is the center hole that makes it useful.
Shape clay into a vessel;
It is the space within that makes it useful.
Cut doors and windows for a room;
It is the holes that make it useful.
Therefore, profit comes from what is there;
Usefulness from what is not there.

Fashion Accesories....the hair bows

Hair bows clips have been a popular hair accessory for women and little girls since the 1800s. Imagine that! They have been around for over a 100 years helping women not only by adding beauty to their hair but also fulfilling a purpose. They have the function of keeping hair out of the face and eyes, by holding sections of hair in the desired place.
A little hair bow might very well be the very first fashion accessory a little baby girl might wear!
Little girls often times use small ribbons that come in pairs so that they can have one on each side of the head. You can find them for every day use or a little fancier or dressier for formal occasions.

You can find them with embellishment such as flowers or ornaments, You can find them big and small, you can find them in combinations of colors or one solid color, bright or pastel with polka dots or gingham or plaid.
They are practical, they are fun, they can give you a touch of style even if you don’t have a lot of hair and can’t talk jet!

At Bare Sock Crafts we just started to make a few models of little bows for baby girls that have Velcro in the back so that you can attached them even if there is not to much hair to hold on to.

I can make the bows in the same fabric and or colors as the stuffed animals to match, wouldn't that look adorable?

Treasures in the Attic or the garage

It is hard to believe but in June it will be one year since my Father in Law passed away. After Joe passed away my Mother in law had to move to a smaller house and a lot of their priced possessions had to be put in storage.

As the process of storing it in our garage took place, we started to realize that there were far more pieces of china that we could ever use, that there was jewelry that didn’t fit us and more artifacts and too many boxes to keep, and the idea of selling some of those pieces came to light.

It has been an amazing journey through family history, because I didn’t know my husband’s grandparents and going through the items they had in their house or the jewelry they wore has brought me closer to them. It has given me a picture of who they were and how they lived.

Every time I go into the garage to open a new box of items, I take a trip down other peoples lives, I learn about their taste and way of life.

Selling some of these wonderful antiques requires a lot of study and research, I am not an expert in Antiques so we need to study each item carefully to be able to describe it accurately and to determine a fair price for both parties.

The Process takes sometimes months, from the moment I open that box of treasures to the moment I am able to put a listing in Klassic.
First I take pictures, measure, write down any descriptions, marks, etc.
Using a magnifying glass I look for even the smallest markings and then I start the research, sometimes it takes lots of tries to find something similar, sometimes I find it right away.

Don’t ever disregard a run of the mill object that because you have seen it in your house for years looks run down or boring , with a little bit of cleaning that familiar, seemingly boring object can get a fresh look, with a little creativity and vision it can be repurposed, they can be displayed with other ‘vintage’ items to add character to a room, or if you just don’t have the room for it, let someone else discover it. Sell it to give the item a chance at a new life. Treat them with respect, don’t throw them away, give them instead a chance to shine again to get a new home, to tell a story, to show young people how things were made to last. How our ancestors use to live and what kind of things they cherish.

Vintage items have character, they have value sometimes more than we think!

Timeless, elegant, and classic Wedgwood Jasperware China

In the 18th century a man named Josiah Wedgwood founded a pottery firm in England known for its high quality and craftsmanship. Wedgwood is synonym of Beauty, style and elegance.
One of the most common Wedgwood types is Jasperware, it is known for beauty and elegant style featuring classic inspired scenes in bas relief frequently of Greek mythology in white over unglazed stained fine stoneware.

Jasperware has been made in a variety of colors but the original colors were blue, green, yellow , lilac and black , so depending on the color of the piece you can determine the age of the piece, for example pink was not introduced until 1982.
There are records of several thousand experiments made by Josiah Wedgwood until he achieved exactly what he was looking for.

Looking at this magnificent china you could not have imagined that it took a very determined man to accomplish this stunning and innovative result that has been produced for over 200 years.
Owning a piece of Jasperware is like owning a piece of history, it is for me like telling Mr.Josiah Wedgwood that even today we appreciate the effort he put into giving us these pieces of art to decorate our houses, to pass on from generation to generation.
This amazing tradition and company’s heritage lives on, in 1986 the fifth generation of Wedgwoods built a modern factory where they use new methods of production and has been a source of pride for the United Kingdom earning 11 Queen Awards to industry for export achievement.
My husband was born in England, during his parents stay there, they acquired several pieces that we enjoy and love. It was only after careful consideration that we decided to share a set of bridge ash trays or dishes in my vintage store klassic. for others to enjoy.

Have you heard of Depression glass?

Depression glass is the name given to the glass made during the great depression in the United States from the early 1920s through the middle of the 1940s.
It was a very difficult time where people lost their jobs or were forced to take a pay cut. Peeple had to adjust to living with less and making the most of what they had.

This mass-produced molded glassware was of relatively poor quality, often exhibiting air bubbles, heavy mold marks and other flaws in the glass, yet it came in beautiful colors and patterns to suit every taste. It came in variety of colors. The most popular colors are green, amber, blue, pink and yellow, although you can find them in other colors like ivory and cobalt.

Depression glass was mass produce with molds and was of relatively poor quality, since you cod see flaws in the glass like air bubbles and mold marks, but it came in attractive colors and patterns.
The technique they used to mass produce these items had not been used before and it was replaced by other methods afterwards, making this period and these pieces very popular as collectible items.

Since it was a time of great economic difficulty and people would rather buy food than glassware the manufacturers would offer a free gift with purchase or it sometimes a bowl would come in a box of cereal or detergent, sometimes it was given as a gift at the movie theater or the gass station.

I find it facinating that people kept these pieces, that you still can find many of them in good shape but most of all I find them facinating because they have history.

They were produced for a purpose, they fullfilled it, they cheer people in a time of need , they brought beauty to houses where smiles were limited and today they still bring joy and remind us of how we can make it through the tought and not so good times, these pieces are of that.

Organic Moth repellent

We recently had a little bit of a problem with moths. Yes! Buying organic grains can have it’s downside!!
To get rid of the moths we looked for an eco friendly alternative to moth balls not only because the smell is offensive but also because they can cause all kinds of health problems
I searched and I found that there are a lot of herbs that can be used as moth repellent so being the crafty person that I am, I went and got the necessary herbs and made some sachets.
I made the blend for each sachet individually to ensure that they would have equal proportions of each herb,
There are different recipes for moth repellent herb blends, the one I used is:
equal amounts of lavander, lemon peel, cloves, spearmint and feverfew

But you can also try:
Equal parts of dried lavender, dried lemon peel, 1 broken cinnamon stick
or
1 part peppermint, 1 part spearmint, 1 part rosemary, 1/2 part thyme

Or if you are not crafty or you don't have a place where you can buy this herbs easily..... you can buy the sachets already made from my etsy store, baresockcrafts

Please take note that these herbs sachets will not kill the moth, the scent will just repell the moths.

To get rid of the moths you need to
Clean the area where you found them thoroughly to ensure you are getting rid of all the eggs and larvae.
Get rid of any food items that might be their food source.
Use air tight containers to store your grains.
To help protect cloths, make sure you wash them before storing them
If possible place items in seal containers

Many of you are looking forward to receiving lots of hugs, kisses handmade presents and cards maybe even a relaxing day without cooking or cleaning would be nice.
Whether you are expecting or have a house full of kids, I sincerely hope that you have a wonderful day with your family and that you get what ever makes you happy today.
Moms are very important and deserve to be loved.

In Spain, Mother’s Day is celebrated the first Sunday in May and shares the festivity with many countries, including Lithuania, Hungry, Portugal and Sudafrica. This celebration dates back to the Ancient Greek holiday when Rhea, mother of Greek gods Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, was venerated. Mother’s Day as we celebrate today was initially created by Julia Ward Howe in 1870 as a day to encourage peace during the American Civil War, then it finally became a day in which each family honors their mother.

Is one day enough for Earth?

Wouldn’t it be nice instead of one day to give our planet a whole year or even maybe a decade?

Shouldn’t we be focused really focused on reducing our personal carbon footprint everyday intead of just having one day of celebrations?
Unfortunately sometimes all that talk about earth day and reducing our carbon footprint sounds a little too complicated for most people.

But it is not! there are so many simple ways in which we can start making an impact even if we can’t accomplish everything just changing one thing can be a start.
I am not an expert, but I have a five year old son and I am determined to do my part to ensure that he has a good life and that my grandkids get to inhabit this planet and enjoy walks on the beach, enjoy the sound of water falls, get to see Panda Bears and tigers and eagles.
What can we do, as simple, ordinary people?

Let me share the little things I do:

1. Hang cloths out to dry
I was born in Mexico City, in Mexico almost every house has a cage like box that we call ‘jaula’ that we use to hang several rows of cloths lines and when there is good weather we let our cloths air dry. Obviously when I moved to the USA I needed my cloths line, I think cloths just look better, last longer and smell cleaner when you do this.

2.Recycle!!
Separate your garbage, recycle your bottles, cans and news papers!I know it is a chore to have different containers to keep garbage separate and then store all those bottles until you are ready to take a trip to the recycling place, but if you get organized it is not that hard. You can take a little bit everytime you go to the grocery store

With the focus on living green I have been looking at everything in our house with a different light.
I found a box with some cloths I had not worn in a while and I decided to try out that 'felting' technique that I have been hearing a lot about and try to reuse or repurposed it

After I washed the sweater in hot water I dried it on hight heat too, it became quite small and thick!

This is the very first item I have ever made with this techinique!
After I wash it and see how it comes out, I might make some more to include in my etsy store

Wonderful history behind vintage items

I opened my vintage store Klassic on Etsy last year when I realized how much interest there was for vintage items, I realized that it was just not fair to keep all those ‘treasures’ stored in a box in our garage when there was someone out there that might give it a new life.
We all have ‘stuff’ we don’t use anymore, but that we don’t really want to throw away because it might be dated but still in good shape so it just sits there, accumulating dust , preventing energy to move freely.

Having Klassic has been a great experience, it has allowed us to ‘clean’ a little but the most important aspect of it has been the satisfaction of knowing that this ‘treasures’ have moved on to a better life, they will be cherished , they will be displayed, used and will have a totally new life!
Like this Mickey Mouse scratcher that my husband bought in one of his annual Disneyland trips when he was a little boy, He really liked it until one day he had no place for it and went into storage to make room for new memories. A few months ago while we were going through some of his childhood memory boxes, we found it and we thought it was time for Mickey to get a new home.
Mickey did get a new home, and what a home!! Barbara the wonderful lady that bought the scratcher told me that she was buying it for her husband’s daughter (who is now 50) , her step daughter had told her that when she was little they went to Disneyland and she wanted to get one of this Mickey Scratchers, but she didn’t get it and guess what? She never forgot about it!

So Barbara thought it would be a wonderful gift for her and even thought about putting it in a shadow box for it. Barbara said she couldn’t wait to see her step daughter’s face when she gets it , her husband thinks she will cry!
Barbara shared with me that Tina’s son is getting married in March and she will go to the wedding and that is when she will give her the present.

Thinking that one little girl’s dream of finally getting that childhood Disneyland souvenir makes us realize how selfish it is to keep those treasures from bringing happiness to others. Vintage has history and there is always someone that appreciates it! This is for you Barbara! I hope Tina loves the present and I think she will love you even more for being so thoughtful and giving her this part of her childhood back!!Thank you for sharing the story and giving me permission to share it with others

February's birthstone is Amethyst

Karson the Giraffe is back!

Last March we took a trip to the Wild animal park in San Diego and my then four year old son was really fascinated by the giraffes and talked about them constantly and that inspired me to make Karson the Giraffe.

Karson is really friendly and soft because he is made of yellow fleece lightly stuffed with poly fill . His eyes and mouth are made of black embroidery floss to make it safe on small hands. Inside his tummy he has a round rattle so you can hear him when he is running around the house, his mane is sewn into his body and is made of synthetic suede.

Karson is 11.5” (29 cms) tall, 3.5” (9cms)the widest point of his belly and sideways 5.5” (14 cms).

By going green you benefit not only the environment but yourself too! think about it this way, if you chose organic produce you keep chemicals and pesticides out of your body but you also prevent them from entering the waterways.

Did you know that vinegar is a great cleanser?
By using vinegar you can disinfect and clean while avoiding harsh chemicals and it is cheaper too!
It is very effective in killing mold, bacteria and germs. Cleaning with vinegar is a good way to avoid chemicals.

To deodorize the garbage disposal. – Pour ½ cup baking soda and ½ cup hot white distilled vinegar, let it sit for 5 minutes then let the hot water run down the disposal.

To clean the microwave.- Mix ½ cup white distilled vinegar and ½ water in a microwave safe bowl. Bring it to a boil inside the microwave, wipe clean.

Another way to go green is to make your appliances more efficient.

Disneyland Vintage Souvenirs Monday Post

On Mondays I am going to post about the wonderful world of Disneyland vintage Souvenirs!

Last week we took another trip down memory lane by looking at my husband’s childhood memory boxes. It is amazing how many things he kept from his annual family trip to Disneyland back in the 70’s.

To begin this series the souvenir that caught my attention this time is a very unique postcard / guide copyrighted in 1972.

It is a card stock map that serves two purposes:
1. Dial guide
2. Post card

On one side you can see a map with holes punched in the different points of interest, at the bottom a paper wheel with numbers. When you turn the paper wheel a pink dot appears inside the hole in the map and in the back another window gives you a description of the different attractions.

The right side of the back serves as a post card , which in my opinion is very smart.

I just love how clever and unique these souvenirs were!

I have been into Feng Shui for yerars and this what I will be doing to prepare for the New Year:

1. Clean my pantry and refrigerator, throw away all the stuff that is half used and then we will re-stock with new food.

2. Throw away or take down old Calendars and will hang up new calendars, isn’t that a great way to greet the New Year?

3. It is a great idea to fill your wallet, don’t start the New Year with an empty wallet!!

4. I will put a bowl with 9 oranges in my kitchen table for positive energy and prosperity

5. Empty all trashcans and take garbage out

6. Do the Laundry, it is not nice to start the new year with piles of dirty cloths!

7. Put a dish with nuts in the living room candies to symbolize an abundant home.

Cleaning up after Christmas.....organize, recycle ideas

It is the day after Christmas and there is so much to clean up!

I have to start by saying that I am not a cleaning freak, that most days you can find toys in every room of the house and that although I try to keep it organized it is a work in progress and never ending job. It may sound like I am really organized but the reality is I am only partially organized, one room is clean today and the next day it might not. I don’t think our house is ever all clean and organized at the same time!

New Toys

With my son getting new toys for Christmas and then again for his birthday in January, I start by going through his toys and see which one he has out grown and put them aside to be donated and make room for the new.

I use shoe size clear plastic boxes with lids to put away toys in his closet, that way all the parts are together,contained and can be staked.

I put all of the instruction manuals in three ring sheet protectors so that I can have them all in one binder and have them handy when I need them.

I also try too keep the part of the package where I can see what the particular toy included because that way I can refer to it whenever I have doubts about what parts I need to assemble it again.

Recycle
Have you seen those little wires that toys are secured with? Well after Santa Claus is done we have a lot of those and instead of throwing them away I keep them and keep them in the kitchen drawer! They are great to close an open bag of chips or to hang wind chimes, the possibilities are endless!

I also check the gift bags and if they are in good shape I fold them and keep them for next year, there is no sense in throwing away something that can be re-used and kept away from the landfills!

I use the cardboard boxes to store Christmas ornaments and I also re-use tissue paper to wrap delicate ornaments to keep them from touching each other and breaking in the box.

When my almost five year old son came down the stairs and saw what Santa Claus had brought him, the look on his face made everything so worth it!

He was so exited that Santa had brought EVERYTHING on his list and even added a few extras! The wonder, the illusion, the excitement in his face is priceless!

New Sew Christmas ornament Tutorial

Materials

Styrofoam ball
Pen/sharpie
Measuring tape
Exacto knife
Scraps of fabric
2 pins
Ribbon

Step. 1
Divide the Styrofoam ball into 4 with the pen or sharpie marker
Step. 2
Measure to find out the hight and the wide of the rectangle you will need for each wedge.
Step. 3
Cut 4 rectangles with those measurments
Step. 4
Using the Exacto knife cut on the line of each wedge

Step. 5
Using the pins secure the fabric at the top and bottom and using something thin but sharp push the fabric inside the cut in the styrofoam, keep going until the wedge is covered and there is no fabric left outside.

Step 6.
Do the next wedges until you are done.

You can get creative and cut the styrofoam in any way you want and choose as many fabrics as you want!

By now you must know that I am just crazy about Christmas and about Christmas ornaments. I make them, I collect them and I love to hang them!
It is just right that I would now take this fascination to preserve my son's little hands to make new ornaments and start new traditions.
We have painted ceramic ornaments at Color me mine, we have made reindeers with his feet and hands, made felt a hand felt bear for Santa Claus and the latest is a hand print tree!
What better way to preserve his little handprints?

Turquoise is December’s birthstone. It is an opaque mineral that varies from very green blue to light sky blue shades.
It has been known by different names but around the 16th century the word turquoise derived from the French Turquoise (Turkish) or from pierre turquin ( dark blue stone) not because it comes from Turkey but because it was traded at Turkish bazaars to Venetian merchants who brought it to Europe.
Turquoise is said to enhance wisdom, trust, kindness, understanding and spiritual clarity, properties that probably have made Turquoise a sacred stone for the North American Indians and the Tibetans.
Turquoise is one of the most valuable non-transparent gems used for Jewelry and it has been mined for a very long time, at least since 6000 BC!

Some of my first handmade Christmas ornaments

Here are some pictures of ornaments I made when I was 9 years old.
The snoopy was copied from a Christmas sticker I had. My older brother helped me copy the snoopy shape and then I cut and glued it to the felt.

The Santa face was an attempt to copy one of the ornaments we bought, it didn't turned out the way it was supposed to be, but it turned out good enough for us to keep!

This bunny was made many years later, it is a combination of a muslin bunny I bought with cloths, hat and candy cane I made.

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood that revolve around Christmas, like decorating the tree, preparing the food, going to church and spending time with my family.

I come from a very small family, both of my grandparents died before I was 6 years old , since then my Mom (a single mom) made every Christmas very special creating our own traditions.
My Mom doesn’t like Turkey so she designed a special Christmas menu that was nothing like what everyone else had, but my brother and I loved it, it consisted of garlic shrimp, cheese ravioli with a delicious tomato and cream sauce, pork with coke with prunes and tomato sauce, mashed potatoes, salad and chocolate cake. Fortunately for me my husband likes it too and so we have kept the tradition.

For decorating the tree I have always tried to include ornaments that have meaning to our life and dreams. I always start the same way with a little house, then I add angels to guard our house, doves for peace , bells for music, candles (wooden ones) and stars for light, we have ornaments that represent each of us and some that have our names, we add something that represents our friends, our family and work.

As I said in my post how it all started, I was 9 years old when I got the idea of buying some felt Christmas ornaments to copy, we still have those ornaments and getting them out to decorate our tree just brings back years and years of great memories.

I made this bag for my son after trying to get him a 'decent' trick or treat bag.
As for Easter, the trick or treat bags you can find are not quite what I would want for my son, they have character's that are not from Halloween or they are too scary for a four year old, or they are just plain ugly.
Being crafty is nice when you have a 'unique' approach to certain holidays! Unhappy with what I could find, I ust made him something we bothe were very happy with.

Disneyland Haunted Mansion Secret Panel chest box

With Halloween coming soon I thought I would share with this wonderful Disneyland souvenir from the famous attraction ‘The Haunted Mansion’ that we have for sale in my Klassic vintage store.

This wonderful Secret panel chest puzzle box was made in Japan and it was released in 1969 and it was sold both by Disneyland and Disneyworld.

It has a secret drawer you can use to hide stuff in and to get it open you have to find the right combination of movements and move the panels around so you can slide the end panel upward to reveal it. It has several sliding panels that due to their design blend with the box.

My husband and his family used to visit Disneyland every year and in one of those visits he and his brother each bought one of these intriguing puzzles. It is hard to imagine that these boxes have been around for 40 years and still work perfectly. Now a days you go to Disneyland and buy a ‘souvenir’ and not only are they not intriguing or stimulating but they are certainly not going to stand the test of time.

I also visited Disneyland as a little girl and I still remember my Mickey Mouse coin purse and my Tinker Bell pencil case very fondly I wonder if my son will have the same fond memories for the not so unique souvenirs he has acquired from his trips to the Magic Kingdom.

The Klassic World of Bare Sock Crafts

I changed the name of the blog to The Klassic world of Bare Sock Crafts because I divide my work time between two stores, the one dedicated to my handmade Crafts and the other one to vintage treasures from our family.
Part of my time is devoted to Klassic store dedicated to vintage items from our family. Klassic started when I realized how much people appreciate vintage items and I since I am a firm believer in recycling and giving items a new life I thought we had so many things not being used ready to get a new life and to bring joy to other families as they have done with ours. Everything we offer in Klassic comes from our family, we don’t buy them at garage sales, estates or auctions.
I still try to devote some time to creating for Bare Sock Crafts and combined they are my stay at home work.

I just listed a really fun puppet/goody/candy bag on my etsy store.
His name is Leonardo and he is really cute.
The idea behind these puppet bags is to Re-Use!! sure kids need to give goody bags to their friends when they have a party, but do we really need to buy all those cheap useless toys?
My son has received the basically the same good bag from the party store just with a sticker of a different theme full of little things that honestly once we get home we and I mean both him and me do not know what to do with it.

After Earth day and after all the things that are happening to our planet we need to be more consicious! We need to stop throwing away so much plastic that ends up in the ocean and we need to teach our kids how to be GREEN!

My Treasury is Front Page

This week started with a wonderful surprise! One of my treasuries was featured on Etsy’s Front Page !

It is really amazing to have the opportunity to curate a treasury featuring products that you enjoy and find interesting or unique. It is a privilege that I have come to enjoy and look forward to and after I did my first one I became addicted. I make them as often as I can and on Monday, when I was told my treasury had been featured in the front page I was thrilled!
The inspiration

The inspiration for this treasury was Mother’s day and I really had a lot of fun preparing it!

Etsy day

Well, it has been almost two months since my last post!

But today I want to celebrate along with my fellow Etsians, Etsy day!
I haven't been part of the Etsy community for long, but I am very proud to be part of it and I would like everyone to know about it and come take a look at all the talented artisans that have stores and sell their creations.

Pascualito the Easter Bunny

This past weekend I listed my favorite Easter bunny on etsy.
His name is Pascualito and I have been making him for a very long time.

Pascua means Easter in Spanish and since Pascualito was born during Easter it just made sense to give him that name.
Pascualito is very friendly and easy going. I have made Pascualito and his sister Pascualita in all sizes and with lots of different fabrics and it always turns out to be a fun loving bunny.

I love making him because it is very flexible and when you move him around you can see him getting into all this different poses, almost like yoga poses!

Pascualito is safe for babies and toddles because his eyes, nose and mouth are embroidered.

Making Pascualito again is great, looking at his happy face....makes me smile.

Dr. Seuss birthday

Today is Dr.Seuss birthday , to celebrate we had green eggs for breakfast (scrambled eggs with green salsa). In honor of Horton Hears a Who, Bare Sock and I made 2 pink clovers with a white speck of dust at the top ( pink pom pom with a smaller white pom pom at the top sitting on a green pipe cleaner, then pin them to our cloths and attended a play-date with our Moms group with a Dr.Seuss theme.
I got the idea of the craft from: http://familycrafts.about.com/library/projects/blhortonwho.htm and the pink clover idea was submitted by Christy Galemore. I just changed the pencil for a pipe cleaner.

How it all started

I just started a shop on Etsy called baresockcrafts (www.baresockcrafts.etsy.com) to sell stuffed animals, Christmas ornaments, baby shower favors, etc. and unlike the other times when I have sold my crafts, I am learning now that ‘word of mouth, now a days is pass through blogs, thus here I am trying to write interesting about me and why I have this hobby.

It all started when I was 9 years old at Christmas time, I asked my mom to buy me a few Christmas ornaments and some felt, sequence, embroidery floss and stuffing. Being the wonderful Mom she is , she took me to the department store and told me to choose what I wanted. I picked a big flat Santa Claus, a bell, a tree, a house and a stuffed santa claus and felt in the same colors. I tried to use the ornaments as templates to duplicate and the result was , how should I say? Horrendous !! But my wonderful mom thought they were amazing and we hung them in the Christmas tree.
Every year after that I made some new ones, following different ideas, one time I copied a sticker of snoopy ice skating. ( I will post a picture tomorrow) Every year my ornaments got better.
As the years went by I got interested in knitting, crochet and sewing!
When I was around 18 years old, I saw a lady making ornaments at my sporting club and I asked if she would teach me how to do them, she did. They were Styrofoam balls covered with fabric.
Immediately I bought the materials and started making them, the first ones, were cute but imperfect, but I perfected that lady’s technique and soon I was using stripped fabric and making patterns with it and the result was really good.

Time passed and one day a friend of my Mom came to visit and saw our Christmas tree and my ‘creations’ , she liked them so much that she asked me to make some for her and said she would pay me!!!!!!!!! Wow she would pay me to make something I enjoyed doing and that I would do for free!!
It was Christmas time and I was about to travel and the money she paid me ‘tasted’ so goooood.
During that trip I decided I would start a business doing what I loved and at the age of 24 I started a business......
